Pro Tip: Make Color Sample Boards

Pro Tip: Paints and stains look different on each type of wood you put them on – so make paint/stain sample boards for each type of wood you use!

I’ve always loved my alcohol marker sets the two boards on the right), but they don’t work well on darker woods – because they work more like a stain than a paint. And, I’ve always loathed painting small details on the other woods (small paint brushes and I don’t see eye to eye and every single paint pen I’ve tried has made me want to scream in frustration) – so I’ve been left with whatever contrast my laser can give those.

Well … I bit the bullet a couple weeks ago and tried POSCA markers … and let me tell you – GAME CHANGER! Now I can add all the fun colors to my darker wood creations, too! (I might have an obsession with filling the color chart on these POSCA markers now!)
